The Myvi is a good car modification project to play with. With the right mods your Myvi can be transformed into a fun car. Don't waste money, do your homework and follow our unbiased guides to each performance upgrade to avoid disappointment.

Handling/Suspension upgrades

Improving the handling for people first priority in your Myvi tuning project.

Fully adjustable suspension allows you to fine tune the handling of you Myvi dramatically benefitting your drive.

Drop the car by as much as 21mm - 35 mm and fit performance stiffer dampers, bigger drops will need other modifications in most instances.

A nice wide torque band and sweet spot of peak power at one third of your RPM range is optimum.

Following our tips for modding your Myvi you will make a practical but hot car that will potentially show up bigger cars.

Sadly with smaller engine sizes you are wasting your time spending money on modifications, so if this applies to you get yourself an engine swap then apply the following mods.

Engine Tuning.

These are the uprated modifications are usually fitted by our members, decide how far you want to push your car before you get started.

Getting the best performance parts for your planned usage of the car is vital. Stage 3 (competition) mods just won't work well on the road difficult in stop start traffic.

Typical stage 1 mods often include: Suspension upgrade (drop 30-40mm), Remap, Panel air filter, Alloy wheels, Lighter flywheel, Sports exhaust.

Typical stage 2 mods often include: Ported and polished head, high flow fuel injector, fuel pump upgrades, Power/Sport clutch, Fast road cam.

Typical stage 3 mods often include: Internal engine upgrades (pistons/head/valves), Engine balancing, Adding or upgrading forced induction (turbo/supercharger), Competition cam, Sports gearbox.

Your targets when modding the engine should be a nice flat torque output. You don't want all the power to be at the top end of the rev range unless you are creating a competition car.

In this article we shall give your a good starting base to the best upgrades for your car, but we'd encourage you to spend some time on the site looking into the details of each type of performance upgrade.Fast road cams offer one of the biggest power gains for your money as far as a single uprated modifications goes on a NASP engine.

The intake & exhaust durations play a large part in your cars power band, but be careful here, getting this wrong can upset the idle and make the car hard to drive in traffic. You'd need to follow a cam upgrade with other mods and finish with a performance chip to fully release the power gain.

When pushing up the power you will need to uprate to the fuelling. More power needs more fuel.

If you find you suffer from flat spots and power surges after your motorsport parts you should check the fuelling and try a higher octane fuel as well. To get sufficient fuel you may need to uprate the injectors on your engine.

A fuel pump will only deliver a finite amount of fuel, so you may need to uprate this if your injectors are demanding more fuel.

Intake and Exhaust Tuning.

Myvi Engine Swap Engines

Now we move on to the intake and exhaust and ensure proper flow through the engine. Please note that WE DO NOT SEE IMPROVEMENTS WITH INDUCTION KITS, unless you have tuned your car extensively and are finding that the standard air intake has become a restriction.

Derestricting the air flow into the engine is the primary part of tuning so get a freer flowing air filter if you find that the car is running lean only if you find the car is running lean. Induction kits can sound fun but due to the warm air in the engine bay they will not really increase power and more often than not rob you of power.

Do not go with the biggest exhaust you can buy this will slow the exhaust rate - the best for power gains are usually between 1.5 to 2.5 inches. It is the shape and material more than the bore size.

Getting the cylinder head polished and ported will allow you to get more air into each cylinder. This is definitely a job for a pro with a flow bench. A good multi plate fast road upgraded clutch will help to keep that power going where it should. Never make false economies or assume your standard OEM clutch to cope. The best mods in our opinion for your Myvi are fast road camshaft, remap, induction and exhaust, suspension.

Remaps offer big power gains on all turbo charged cars. On NASP engines the benefits are doubtful. However a remap on a NASP engine will help unleash the potential if you have done a lot of mods.

We've also come across some owners experimenting with twincharging applications and making some very high power gains.

Adding forced induction will see phenomenal power gains but this is usually too expensive to be cost effective. It is generally simpler to bolt on a superchargerthan it is to install a turbo. It is harder to map a turbo as the boost builds exponentially with rpm.

The nice directly proportional boost and rpm characteristics of the supercharger make them more straightforward to map. To cope with forced induction you will usually need to decrease the engines compression ratio .

Alloy wheel upgrades.

The benefits of alloys include lowering your unsprung weight and better brake cooling via the extra air flow they allow. Don't forget that your choice of rubber greatly affects your cars grip and handling. It is not worth compromising performance with cheap tyres when you can buy directional tread pattern performance tires.Large Myvi alloys can decrease performance. If you get big alloys you will be changing your final drive ratio.

Although some people have fitted larger wheels we would restrict ourselves to a 16 inch rim size as the maximum.
